Tuesday night marked the fourth meeting of the year between the Robinson Knights and Jesuit Tigers, but this one was bigger than the rest. The two teams met at Hyer Family Park to determine who would advance to the regional finals next week.

Jesuit got on the board in the first inning on a RBI single from Ryan McCullers (’14), scoring Nick Ortega (’16), who reached on an error earlier in the inning.

Patrick Kiszla (’15) pitched well for the Knights, though his defense was sporadic throughout the night. The team made three errors on the night, but Darius Autry (’15) made a spectacular catch in the second to rob Braxton Rupp (’16) of extra bases.

Kiszla hurled six innings, allowing four runs (two earned), on five hits while striking out three.

Robinson had their share of scoring opportunities, but failed to come through with the clutch hit when needed. Shawn McGory (’16), Darius Autry (’15), and Jack White (’15) each picked up a hit in what turned out to be their final game of the season.

Jesuit added their second run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Braxton Rupp (’16), before adding two more in the sixth on a squeeze bunt by Ronnie Ramirez (’15).

The Tigers’ Michael Sandborn (’16) threw six-plus innings, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out four. Joe Epstein (’15) recorded the final three outs to send Jesuit to the regional final.

The Knights finish the season with a record of 10-16, while Jesuit improves to 22-6.
