Weekly Sports Update: 2/15-2/19

Basketball*

The Knights’ season came to an end on Tuesday night in the regional semifinals with a 45-41 loss to Jesuit (24-5). Robinson reached 17 wins for the third straight season, ending losing streaks against both Plant (four games) and Jesuit (14 games).

Iyan Mitchell (’16) finished the season as Robinson’s leading scorer, averaging 15.9 points per game.

Baseball**

The Knights improved to 3-0 on Tuesday with a 15-0 win over Spoto in five innings. Thursday, they beat district rival Middleton 16-1 in five innings. Robinson takes on district rival Jesuit next Tuesday at home, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.

Softball**

Robinson won both of its district matchups this week, beating Spoto on Tuesday by a score of 16-1 and Middleton on Thursday 17-0. The Knights are now 3-3 overall and 3-0 in the district and face yet another district school, Blake, next Thursday at Blake, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.

Boys Lacrosse**

The Knights’ losing streak was stretched to four this week with a 10-2 loss to Tampa Prep on Tuesday and a 16-10 loss on Thursday at Bloomingdale. The team travels to Sickles on Monday for a 5 p.m. game with the Gryphons.

Girls Lacrosse**

Robinson evened its record at 2-2 on Thursday with an 11-7 win at Bloomingdale. The team travels to Sickles on Monday for a 7 p.m. game.

Boys Tennis**

The Knights had their match with Chamberlain canceled on Monday before losing 5-2 to Hillsborough on Wednesday. Their record now stands at 3-1 heading into next Monday’s match against Strawberry Crest.

Girls Tennis**

Monday’s match with Chamberlain was canceled, but Robinson won its fourth straight match on Wednesday, beating Hillsborough 7-0. The team will travel to Strawberry Crest on Monday looking to remain undefeated.

Boys Track**

The boys opened up their season Tuesday at the Plant dual meet.Notable finishers include James Wilson (’17), third in the pole vault, Dannys Marrero (’16), second in 3200, Mike Mack (’16) and Keldric Preston (’16) placed second and third in the discus, respectively and Christian Pete (’16), second in the 100. At press time, complete results for the meet were not available. Select members of the team will head to Riverview Saturday for the Spoto Invitational, while the whole team will compete in Tuesday’s quad meet at Armwood.

Girls Track**

The girls opened up their season Tuesday at the Plant dual meet. Notable finishers include Vivika Sheppard (’17) who placed first in the 800, Claire Casper (’17) who won the pole vault and Raegan Giberson (’17), second in the 3200.
