After Friday’s 24-21 loss to Blake came down to the final play of the game, Robinson (1-2) made sure to get ahead early this Monday, September 25, against Spoto (3-1). Their sizeable early lead paid off and the Knights defeated the Spartans 31-14.

“We played four quarters tonight, finally. When you get the chance to make a play, a lot of things have to happen,” head coach Shawn Taylor said. “But we set that up tonight. We were the better team tonight.”

The game was originally scheduled for September 15, but was rescheduled to Monday due to Hurricane Irma.

Key runs, including a touchdown run, for Taquan Mason (’18) helped put the Knights on the board early in the game, entering halftime with a 16-7 lead. On offense, Cameron Lockridge (’19), Jaden Jennings (’19) and Kyriece Lake (’19) all had big touchdown catches. Quinton Lane (’19), who scored the first touchdown against Blake, continued to play an important role in Monday’s game. He completed a key 15-yard catch early in the first quarter to line the Knights up for a 27-yard field goal.

“After the Blake game, it showed me that every play single play counts toward the outcome of the game,” Lane said. “Whether it builds momentum or puts points on the board.”

Robinson came out strong, dominating on offense in the first half. Spoto put up two touchdowns in the middle of the game, one from a 95-yard run for Nicolas Areizaga (’20). But they were never able to catch up to the Knights.

“The win was good for the team’s confidence,” Lane said. “Now that we have the win going into bye week, we’re starting to build a rhythm heading into the second half of the season.”

The Knights do not have a game this Friday, September 29, but face Brandon October 6 at Robinson High School (6311 S Lois Ave, Tampa, FL 33616).
