The Robinson flag football team has become known for their hard work and title as champions.

The Knights (11-8) had a huge three-game week last week, finishing with a 2-1 record, including a win over Jesuit for the first time since 2007.

The Knights first faced Jesuit (14-7) first on Wednesday, April 11, and won 5-2 in 10 innings. Click here to read the story.

On Thursday, April 12, the Knights played Blake (1-16), defeating the Yellow Jackets in five innings.

In their final matchup of the week, the Knights headed to Leto High School (15-4) on Saturday, April 14, but lost 5-3.

The Knights will face Chamberlain (1-19) at Robinson High School (6311 S Lois Ave, 33616).

The Lady Knights played Blake on Thursday, April 12 and brought in a 15-0 win as well as a 17-0 win against Leto on Saturday, April 14. Both opponents were relatively easy competition as the Lady Knights rarely have a hard time bringing in wins against them.

“This weekend we played Leto, it was a good way to get in reps since they aren’t good,” Savannah Shackowsky (’19) said. “This week should be interesting, we play Steinbrenner and Chamberlain in which they are very good games and we need to bring our A game.”

The Lady Knights will play Steinbrenner on Tuesday, April 17 at Steinbrenner High School (5575 Lutz Lake Fern Rd., 33558).

Flag football:

The Knights breezed through last week, defeating both Brandon High School and Tampa Catholic.

On Wednesday, April 11, the Knights defeated Brandon 28-6.

In the second annual Friday Nights Light game, the one flag game the Robinson Marching Band plays for, the Knights beat Tampa Catholic 62-0.

The Knights also celebrated their senior night on Friday. They will graduate nine seniors this year: Ariana Moss, Caroline Caplinger, Paola Nazario, Kaitlyn Power, Cassidy Renninger, Christiana Rolack, Elly Frierson, Liz Kempton and Lauren King.

“Everyone is so close on and off the field and I’m really going to miss seeing everyone everyday because I’ve truly made great friends being on this team,” Frierson said. “I’ll miss the team dynamic the most.”

The Knights will compete in the district semifinals next Wednesday, April 25, at Robinson (6311 S. Lois Ave., 33616).

Girls Lacrosse:

The Lady Knights (5-6) were scheduled to play Land O’ Lakes (2-10) on Tuesday, April 10. But, severe weather conditions forced the game into cancellation, and to never be rescheduled.

Because of this, the six seniors, including co-captain Carolina Cassedy (’18), were forced to settle with their loss to Berkeley Prep the week prior as their final high school game.

“It is so frustrating to only have 11 games instead of the regular 13,” Cassedy said. “It is sad that my final season had to end this way, but I could never have asked for a better season and team.”

Boys Lacrosse:

The Knights (2-11) took a 12-5 loss to Freedom High School (4-7) on Thursday, April 12. The loss marked the end of a 13-game season for the Knights.

Though the Knights suffered a losing record, they focused on all of the team growth this season, considering the significant amount of rookie players this year.

“Regardless of where we are and aren’t as a team, I still feel proud of our effort,” co-captian Dominic Mazza (’19) said. “This is a group that never gave up, and despite losing a ton, spirits were still high at the end of the season.”

Mazza will return next year for his final Robinson season.

Track and Field:

Select members of the Robinson track team traveled to Gaither on Friday, April 13 for districts. “I honestly wasn’t expecting to make it to regional’s,” Fabian said. “I’m proud of myself for giving my all, and proud of the other people that made it. We have a pretty big group going [to regional’s] this year.”
