This year, a new star emerged on the Robinson girls’ basketball team. Freshman guard Julia Miller lead the team in scoring, and was recognized for her success as she was named to the Western Conference American Division first team.

“I was surprised because I thought it was mainly upperclassmen who made it onto the first team,” Miller said.

Despite being a bit surprised by her achievement, Miller does not think that she should have been left off the first team.

“I would say I do deserve it because I worked really hard all season, and I worked hard in practice,” Miller said. “and it all paid off in the games.”

Miller is not the only one who felt that she was deserving of the honor.

“She’s a great player and if anyone deserves that honor, especially as a freshman, it would be her,” Teammate Emily Kemp (’20) said.

She had a lot of support from her team when the news of her award came out.

“[My teammates] all texted me and congratulated me and they were all really happy for me,” Miller said. “That made me feel good.”

Reaching this honor this early into her high school career has not deterred her motivation to continue her success in the sport and become better.

“It is kind of inspiring me to have big goals, to try to make first team again next year, and keep getting better.” Miller said.

Basketball is not the only sport that Miller is playing at Robinson, as she is a member of the JV flag football team.

“I like flag a lot, like basketball…but I also really like flag,” Miller said. “so I want to be the best player on the football field I can be as well.”

Emily Kemp, who played four years of flag football and was on the varsity team this year sees the same path for Julia when it comes to flag football.

“She is a very talented flag player as well, and I’m sure she will find the similar if not more success with flag.” Kemp said.

With three years ahead of her, Miller will look to make sure that this is not the last time she is on the conference first-team.
