On Oct. 6, Hillsborough County Public Schools made the decision to start opening athletic events to an increased number of spectators in response to Florida’s recent transition to Phase 3.

In their announcement, HCPS consulted their health partners at Tampa General Hospital and USF Health before increasing capacity.

Beginning last week, maximum capacity was raised for both volleyball and football events. For volleyball, the gymnasium is open to 400 spectators. At football games, 1500 guests are permitted to attend.

Students are no longer required to obtain tickets from participating athletes. Tickets can now be purchased online here, though spots are limited and runs on a first come, first serve basis.

Still, the CDC guidelines used to contain the virus remain in use. People are required to wear masks and to sit in groups no larger than 10 while maintaining a distance of at least six feet apart from other groups and individuals.
