Anika Sanka is a senior at Robinson High School and is the co-editor-in-chief (EIC) of the Knight Writers. This is her third year on staff. In her freshman year, even though she wanted to be on newspaper, she chose to do an AP elective. The following year, she joined the newspaper after being recommended to it by her cousin, Vikram Sambasivan, a former EIC of the Knight Writers. “I really wanted to do an elective that wasn’t an AP just to boost my GPA, but something I could actually do something in. I also wanted to improve my writing,” Sanka said. Being an EIC this year, Sanka has many goals for the newspaper as a whole. One of them is to earn an All-Florida award from the Florida Scholastic Press Association. “I think we are very capable of it. I’m honestly so happy I am EIC now,” Sanka said. “I now have the position and ability to implement things so we can be a really be a well-structured newspaper and win these awards.” Outside of newspaper, Sanka enjoys spending time playing sports. She is on the varsity track team, but she also likes to find time to play other sports as well. “In middle school, I did rowing for a while; that was fun, but I just wasn’t the best at it. I always found my way back to running. I love track. I love our community, and I love the team. I’ve also been dancing for a while. I like doing sports and activities like this just for fun,” Sanka said. When Sanka isn’t running or working, she enjoys spending free time watching 2000s movies with friends. In addition, Sanka doesn’t have a particular favorite music artist, but her favorite music genres are pop, rock and indie. “[My favorite movie is] ‘She’s the Man.’ It’s a 2000s movie, and it has Amanda Bines in it, and I just love her movies. The 2000s are just so good, and they are comfort movies,” she said. Being a senior, Sanka wants to go to Emory University in Atlanta or the University of Florida. She wants to study law or journalism “It [Emory University] is beautiful, it has nature, and cool extracurriculars. I want to go into law or journalism; something in the English and communications field. They have cool political science programs which I want to go into,” Sanka said. (Profile by Allison Bartlett)

Grace Shafer is a senior at Robinson high school and currently serves as co-editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. Shafer chose to join the newspaper because of her passion for storytelling and filmmaking. “I’m excited to work on print and digital content, especially for multi media,” Shafer said. Beyond her role in the newspaper, Grace is also an aspiring director. She showcases her creativity through photography and music videos on her online portfolio. “I want to create short films and hope to attend FSU for film studies,” Shafer shared. Shafer enjoys exploring the great outdoors, particularly through hiking. She visits to North Carolina allowing her to connect with nature and challenge herself physically. “A fun fact about me is that I love thrifting. I always look for unique finds and then grab a bite to eat with friends,” Shafer said. In addition to hiking, Shafer is a movie enthusiast. Her favorite genres are drama and horror, and she can often be found at the theater thanks to her AMC Stubbs membership. “My next concert is in October, and I can’t wait to experience more live music!” Shafer explained. Shafer’s goals for this year on staff are to bring her creative vision to life. “I hope to contribute by writing great stories and sharing my passion for film and photography,” Shafer said. Sophie Le , a senior and third-year staffer, is thrilled to be serving as Co-Editor-in-Chief this year. “This is my third year on staff, my first year as Co-Editor-in-Chief,” she shared. “Last year I started out as Opinion Editor, and yeah, this is my senior year.” Sophie is especially excited about the opportunities ahead. “I’m so excited, especially in newspaper, to gain more leadership, create a better community, and also just try things I’ve never tried in the years past.” Outside of journalism, Sophie is a passionate tennis player. “This is my fourth year on varsity tennis and my third year as captain,” she said proudly. While she doesn’t plan to play competitively in college, she adds, “I’ll probably just play for fun, maybe do like some club.” When she’s not leading a newsroom or dominating the court, Sophie finds inspiration in music. “My favorite artist is Lana Del Rey, she’s like my all-time favorite artist,” she said, adding that her current favorite song is “Thunder.” Right now, Sophie is also tackling the college application process head-on. “My goal is to survive college app season,” she admitted. “I just started opening Common App and I’m just really hoping to relax and let things flow.” She has her eyes set on the University of Florida, where she hopes to “major in public health.” As she heads into her final year, Sophie’s focus is clear: “To lead with purpose, survive the Common App, and make the most of every moment.” (Profile by Tony Wallace)  

This is Senior Ashlyn Miller’s third year on the Knight Writers staff and her second year in an editorial position, previously serving as the Sports Editor and now as a Co-Editor-in-Chief. Originally, Miller did not intend to take the class, describing her random placement as “luck.” She was assigned to Newspaper in her sophomore year and has remained in it since. “I think I got into Newspaper by luck,” Miller said. “It just happened, and I loved it. I really enjoy the creative freedoms that it gives me.” Miller plays many roles within the Robinson community. She is not only a part of the Knight Writers, but is also involved in various clubs and sports, including ROTC, where she serves as an Executive Officer; Girl Up, where she is the President and Founder; Student 2 Student, where she is an Officer; KOSB (Keeping Our School Beautiful), where she is an Officer; the Swim team; and the Orchestra and Band. If that wasn’t enough to illustrate how busy Miller keeps herself, she also finds time to pursue her own hobbies outside of Robinson, such as painting, other artistic activities, sports photography and sports in general. “I love fall because I love watching and keeping up with college football. I don’t really care about the NFL, I just feel like college has so much more passion behind it,” Miller said. “My family my whole life has bonded over Alabama football in particular, which nobody at school really gets. That just makes it feel more special to me and my family.” As Co-Editor-in-Chief, Miller has many goals for the Knight Writers, which include not only accumulating awards but also helping all staffers learn and improve their journalistic skills. Last school year was a victory for the Knight Writers, as they earned a Sunshine Standout for their print publication as well as an All-Florida for both their online and print editions. Miller has high hopes, aiming to win a Pacemaker, the highest achievement a publication can achieve. With it being her senior year, Miller hopes to attend the University of Florida to pursue an undergraduate degree in nursing before attending Physician Assistant school. “I would like to work mainly in women’s health. Part of what makes me love journalism so much is the idea of advocacy. I hope to be an advocate for women in their time of need now, and in the future,” Miller said.
