I wouldn’t even feed my dog this.

Disgusting, sickening and revolting are just three adjectives to describe it. Papa John’s recently released their brand new Papa Bowls and it completely caught me off guard. Although the idea of a crustless pizza might sound appealing to anyone on a low-carb diet, I think I’ll be hugging my toilet the rest of the night after eating this.

For $7.99, Papa John’s promoted them to be “a fresh way to enjoy endless combinations of the most indulgent flavors.” The Papa Bowl is essentially tomato sauce and cheese mixed with pizza toppings. There were three different styles you could choose from: Chicken Alfredo, Garden Veggie and Italian Meats.

Now I wouldn’t label myself to be a picky eater, but this was truly something else. After waiting for an entire hour for my order to arrive, I opened the box to my food to look like it had been half eaten. I wasn’t sold by the appearance at all, it looked like regurgitated pizza that someone had thrown up. There was also a weird smell that immediately hit my face; a mixture of burnt toast and spoiled cheese.

I decided to go with the Garden Veggie bowl since I’m not a big fan of meat. The flavor was hard to describe. The soggy vegetables, mixed with the tomato chunks and thick layer of cheese, honestly felt wrong. The bowl was sour and salty but also sweet at the same time. All the vegetables tasted as if they came from a can, which didn’t surprise me since the bowl wasn’t even $10.

Not to mention, everything was super greasy. Every bite I took turned my stomach even more. The tomato chunks left a weird coat of water at the bottom too which made it even less appetizing. Also, the Papa John’s I ordered from forgot the only part I was looking forward to, the spinach, which really disappointed me, but the mushrooms did end up being really juicy and good.

Despite how bad it was, I must admit it was a creative concept. Even though this was affordable at only $7.99, Papa John’s sure did not sell me on this item. This comes close to the worst thing I’ve ever put in my mouth (right behind durian) and I certainly will not be giving this bowl a second chance.
