Best vintage stores around town

Wendy’s Closet in St. Petersburg

There is a wide range of thrift and vintage stores in the Tampa Bay area. Going on a hunt for vintage clothing can be a hassle. Here’s my ultimate list of vintage stores to find the best clothing with ease.

Wendy’s Closet

Wendy’s Closet is a curated vintage store with thousands of vintage pieces to select from. Wendy herself, the owner, sources all the pieces herself and will tell you the story behind the piece. The “closet” is quite hectic, but everything is organized by sizes and styles and workers can also assist you in finding any vintage article of your dreams. Being first on the list, this is my go-to vintage store when on the hunt for articles I can’t find in the thrift store. If items are priced too high for you, Wendy will reasonably bargain on the item to fit your budget.

The Far Forest

If you love ’80s and ’70s style, the Far Forest is the perfect place. The establishment is a very curated selection of furniture, books, accessories and clothing. While they’re prices are more on the higher end, if you have specific ’80s or ’70s style pieces in mind, the far forest definitely has them. They also host monthly night music events in the store featuring small artists, along with monthly fourth Thursday night markets with over 25 vendors and live music.

Retro Mania

Owned by an elderly man who has a passion for vintage pieces, Retro Mania has a wide assortment of funky furniture, jewelry and clothing. The establishment has all sorts of hidden gems tucked under items, a great place to search around if you have time to dig under thing’s and find cool pieces. Retro Mania has new items daily including new patches and pins to accessorize.

Avalon Exchange

On the more affordable end, Avalon Exchange offers a wide range of vintage clothing for men and women. Not only can you buy vintage clothes but also sell clothing items you no longer want and use the credit towards new clothes or, cash out and pocket your earnings. They put out new stuff daily ranging from all different styles for your needs. Once a month they offer a one dollar sale for an entire weekend putting majority of the store for only a buck. Avalon has main brand pieces including Urban Outfitters and Free People that save me loads of money.

Vintage Marche

While it’s only open the first weekend of the month, the selection is out of this world. Not only is the furniture and decor amazing, and sometimes at an occasional steal, they also have a huge range of clothing, vinyls and jewelry. Some of the prices may be a little outrageous but if you’re searching for a specific item this is the place.

All of these stores are perfect places for any ’90s, ’80s and ’70s style you’d like to go for with the greatest quality pieces at a good price.

About the Contributor
Briana Garcia
Briana Garcia, Senior Staff Writer
Briana Garcia is a junior at Robinson and a Senior Staff Writer of Knight Writers. This is her second year on staff. Garcia was brought to Journalism by a lack of interest in any other elective the school offered. However, she found an open and creative environment when she came into the newsroom. "I thought there were terrible options, but I feel like there are a good group of people in journalism, like to be in this class you have to have some kind of initiative, some character," Garcia said. During her time on staff, Garcia has been able to pursue her interest in photography. While she enjoys a more artistic approach to photography, she has found an appreciation for sports multimedia. "More specifically sports, I love taking photos and doing photo galleries of games," Garcia said Her passion for photography expands past her schoolwork, as she spends time documenting her own world through the art form. Garcia expresses her creativity most often through fashion. She finds her favorite unique pieces when thrifting, a craft that she has mastered. She also loves to express herself in more permanent ways. Garcia has several patchwork-style tattoos representing her music taste and personal style even further than just her clothes. "I bought my friend a tattoo gun for her birthday, she just gives me any tattoos I want. Most of my tattoos are band or music artist related, I'm really into music and I like to express that," Garcia said. Garcia dreams of going to fashion school to express her full potential in the industry. "My dream school is Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York; I want to go into fashion business or fashion design. I don't know how to draw, but I am really good at sewing and all the business aspects of it," Garcia said. (Profile by Ashlyn Miller)
