Running up and down the court, driving and dribbling the ball to the basket, Jennifer Gutman (’25) causes her opponents’ head to spin as she continuously puts points on the board. Gutman, one of Robinson high school’s basketball stars, has recently reached 1000 points scored during the duration of her time playing basketball at Robinson.

Gutman has been playing basketball since she was eight years old, having played in and out of school; she could be found in YMCA camps, middle school teams, and now, has been playing on Robinson’s Varsity Girls’ Basketball team since her freshman year.

Her current coach, Gerrard Batista, was not at all surprised when he heard the news that Gutman would soon reach this momentous milestone.

“Most basketball players don’t ever make it to that, [1000 points]; it shows the amount of effort and dedication that has gone into her developing and becoming a better player. Especially doing it during her junior year,” Batista said.

With the time that Gutman puts into her work, it’s no secret that this milestone has been on her mind for a while now, driving her to spend extra time on the court and in the gym.

“I feel like I’ve improved rebounding wise for sure because last year I averaged eight rebounds and now I’ve averaged 11 rebounds,” Gutman said. “I practice five to six times a week and three of those days I’m in weightlifting, while the other days I focus on shooting and dribbling drills.”

The sky is the limit on Gutman’s potential as she continues to get better, and work towards her dream of playing for a Division 1 college.

“It was definitely a goal of mine to reach 1000 points so I’m happy about it for sure, but there is always room for improvement and more work [that] I can put in. My goal is to play in college, so I can’t settle just yet,” Gutman said.

About the Contributors
Sofia Scott
Sofia Scott, Staff Writer
Sofia Scott is a junior at Robinson and a staff writer. This is her first year on the staff. For most of high school, Scott has wanted to join the Robinson newspaper staff. Now that she has the chance, she's excited to jumpstart her journalism career for the Knight Writers. "I've been wanting to take journalism for so long, but I always had a bunch of classes that I needed to take so I wasn't getting put into the class, but I finally got it," Scott said. Scott is excited to write stories that express her opinions in newspaper and allow her to interact with people around the school by interviewing people for stories and gaining their input for events. "I prefer to interview just because I actually like interacting with people and I feel like it's a fun way to do journalism. I just like interacting with people and interviewing them and getting their opinion, " Scott said. Outside of newspaper, she participates in numerous school clubs such as Knightmare and Student Government Association (SGA.) She plans to rejoin Knightmare this year and is eager to begin with her first year as an SGA member. As Sofia enters her last years of high school, she plans to attend college or trade school to become an esthetician, keeping in line with her interest in beauty and makeup. "I think I'm going to move towards going into psychology when I major in college, maybe later I go to a trade school or become like an esthetician or something like that because that stuff has always interested me," Scott said. Keirra McGoldrick
Keirra McGoldrick, Opinion Editor
Keirra McGoldrick is senior at Robinson and the Opinion Editor of Knight Writers. This is her third year on staff and her second year as an editor. McGoldrick, as an editor, must provide a sense of direction and help for those coming into newspaper who may not quite know what they need to be doing. She must also make sure that all stories written by staff writers are up to par with that of the standard for the newspaper. “I edit all the opinion stories and make spreadsheets for opinion writers," McGoldrick said. McGoldrick may like writing in journalism, though nothing trumps her love of photography. She lists photography as one of her favorite hobbies and pass times outside of journalism. “I like photography," McGoldrick said. "I take pictures of anything I find interesting." Though McGoldrick has to keep up a balance of her academics and the needs of newspaper, she hopes to have enough time to join the photography club.  She wishes to do this in order to interact and convey her love of photography with other like-minded students at Robinson. Being the academic achiever that she is, McGoldrick keeps up with all of her classes. The two of these classes that she holds closest to her heart are journalism and history. However, she probably favors journalism a little more because it has her favorite teacher, Ms. Webster, who leads her to improve herself in all manner of things, especially photography. Outside of journalism, one of McGoldrick’s pastimes is to listen to music. As we know everyone needs a little bit of music to pull them through a slow school day, or just a slow day in general. “I like R&B and pop," McGoldrick said. “Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, etc." High school isn't all McGoldrick has mapped out to do. Seeing as she is an academic achiever, McGoldrick already has plans for her future. She plans to keep her academic streak going through college. “I plan on going to university and majoring in criminal psychology and then after I graduate from normal college, I’m going to go get a PhD,” McGoldrick said.
