Under the bright lights with a packed student section, the Knights defeat the Blake Yellow Jackets, reigning over District 6 for the first time in 11 years.
“It feels amazing [to have been] a part of this accomplishment,” said wide receiver Xander Logan (’25) who scored two touchdowns against the Yellow Jackets.
The game was very one-sided with the Knights seemingly keeping control throughout the night. The Knights began to dominate from the start with Lakheem Johnson (’24) making an interception off of Blake’s first possession. Near the end of the quarter, Logan scored a touchdown taking the score to 7-0.
“The motivation for me was definitely the goal of trying to get coach Mike his first district title,” Logan said. “That’s all he could talk about all week and it felt amazing to help him get it.”
The second quarter began with the Knights gaining possession of the ball off of a quarterback fumble from the Yellow Jackets. The ball was intercepted by Blake nine seconds later, but subsequently regained by Robinson after another Blake offensive fumble. With Knights having possession, Logan scored his second and final touchdown of the night, ending the half with a score of 14-0.
Robinson started the second half with an injury, but was able to keep the momentum going with a touchdown from quarterback Eric Archibald Jr. (’25).
“I feel great, I feel great for my team and for our school that I was able to contribute to bringing this school a district championship,” Archibald said.
The Yellow Jackets continued to have offensive issues when the Blake QB fumbled the snap. The offense was able to recover the ball, but they were pushed back to their 1 yard line. Within nine seconds, RHS wide receiver Wilton Rollins (’24) scored a touchdown taking the score to 27-0.
In what would be the most dominant display by the Knights this game, the fourth quarter began with another touchdown from Archibald. The Knights also sacked the Blake quarterback and intercepted the ball later in the quarter. To end the night off, Jaylen Holman (’26) scored the final touchdown with 28 seconds left in the game bringing the final score to 39-0.
“Anything good that happens, it’s about the people. This season is just the result of a collective effort of everyone trying to pull the same weight,” said Mike Williams, head coach of Knights Football. “The goal now is to be the best version of ourselves. When you get to the playoffs, you can’t have any bad nights.”
