Every day, students all over the country have to suffer the horrible tragedy of early mornings. Some are lucky enough to seek out a remedy for this horror by visiting the local Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts, but not every soul is fortunate enough for such a savior. However, for RHS students, Chef Smithey has a solution.

This year will be Chef’s fourth year teaching culinary at Robinson. and he has been able to teach class after class all kinds of cooking methods. In accordance with the traditions of previous years, he has decided to run a school cafe out of his classroom which he has dubbed “The Knight’s Tavern.”

“Right now, we’re open in the mornings for coffee and fresh baked goods, and that’ll keep increasing as the year goes on,” Smithey said. “Cookies, brownies, muffins – things like that.”

To just say “coffee” would be an understatement. The Knight’s Tavern is complete with a full espresso machine and creamer bar. Alongside culinary’s own house-made products, there is also a selection of pre-packaged foods ranging from chips to pop-tarts to soda.

“I think its a good opportunity for the students to get snacks throughout the day,” Veteran Culinary Student Elaine Kuhn (‘23) said. “All the sales we make are put back into making new things for the students and for events or catering.”

All sodas, as well as hot and iced coffee are $2, including any syrup or creamer of choice, and all the snacks are only $1.

“Stay tuned,” Chef said. “There’s always going to be new stuff coming out of culinary!”
