Knights look for regional quarterfinal berth

Heading into tonight’s 6A-8 District Semifinal matchup against the Jefferson Dragons, the Knights (11-12) are looking to reverse their four-game losing streak. The Knights are 1-1 against the Dragons, losing 5-3 in February and winning 9-3 in March.

“Well, we haven’t played well in about a month so we’re mentally in a ‘what have we got to lose’ mode, so I think we’ll come out relaxed and play well,” Head Coach Kevin McCray said. “We played well against them last time, we just haven’t been able to play to our abilities over the second half of the season.

Tonight’s starting pitcher, Pete Feinman (’17), has history against the Dragons, earning three strike outs in the loss against them and six strikeouts in the win.

“I don’t think defense is the biggest problem,” Feinman said. “We need to produce at the plate and if we can put pressure on them early then we can control the outcome of the game.”

A loss to the Dragons tonight will end the Knights’ hopes of advancing to the Regional Quarterfinals.

“Those games were kind of all preseason,” McCray said. “But now is the time it actually matters so we’ll see what we can put together tonight.”

The Knights face the Dragons tonight, May 2, at Jefferson High School (4401 W Cypress St, Tampa, FL 33607.)
